Formosa.
The German gunboat Itlis bombarded and silenced the Chinese fort at Hobe because the authorities prevented the departure of a steamer carrying Tang Ohing, President of the Formosa Republic. The steamer afterwards proceeded on her way to the town of Taipehafa, in Formosa, where a powder magazine was set fire to and exploded, killing ninety persons.
