A Fatal Accident.
Just after we had gone to press OH • Saturday afternoon we learnt of a i peculiar accident which ended in the very sudden death of a child of Mr Thomas Bowe's. The child, a fine little boy of 2£ years old, was outside the house, on a hill, playing i with other children, and had in its hand and mouth, a carrot. In running about the little fellow rolled down the hill and by some means got the carrot jerked into his throat, which choked him. The elder child brought him to his mother who promptly took means to pull it out, but the child was black in its face, and only breathed once or twice after the obstruction was freed. A messenger was despatched tor Mr Hamer, our chemist, which he lost no time in attending to, but found his services were of no avail as the child was cold. .... , . ...... Very much sympathy is expressed ; for Mr and Mrs Bowe and the occassion was, if possible, more sad, as having happened on the anniversary ot their wedding day. In the evening a formal inquest was held at Mr Bowe's residence by the Coroner, and a jury composed of Messrs Hennessy, Osborne, Parcel], Satherley and G. Gray. Mr Osborne was chosen foreman. Only the evidence of Mrs Bowe and Mr Hamer was taken and the jury promptly brought in a verdict of death by suffocation. The funeral is arranged for this afternoon.
