Taranaki Petroleum.
Payable petroleum has been struck at the Now Plymouth breakwater. The oil expert reports that he obtained 160 gallons of the c^nesfc quality on Tuesday, and 80 gallons on Wednesday morning, when he had to stop pumping as he bad no more barrels. The only drawback is that sea water comes into the well and prevents the oil from flowing as it should. A new bore will be commenced some distance inland in about 14 days in order to avoid the sea waijer. The present bore is only about 100 yards from high-water mark. A large company will be floated in Sydney to put down a considerable number of bores. The expert will take ten barrels of oil with him to Sydney on Saturday next. Better indications than ever were obtained on Thursday at the petro^ leum works, the oil shooting right up to the top of the derrick. Sites for several new bores will be pegged out an once. Mr Fair, the oil expert, believes that Taranaki will develop into the best oil fk'ld he has ever seen. The pressure of gas in the bore is very great. — Press Association.
