Arthur Orton.
The People publishes the Tich- 1 borne Claimant's sworn affidavit confessing himself to be Arthur Orton, and says he married Mary Ann Bryant at Goulburn, New South Wales. Orton confesses that at the age of 14 he was apprenticed to sea, and visited Valparaiso in the brig Ocean, from which he deserted and visited Santiago: and San Franciae^, returning to England in 188 L JBte. sailed for Hobart in Novetober, 1652, in charge of a number of ponies consigned to a Mr Chapman-, of Hobart. He worked for a butcher named Knight, of Hobart, in 1855, and in the same year accepted employment under John Johnson, of Newburn Park, Gippsland, Victoria. He remained in the latter situation for twelve months, and then was employed by William Foster, of JJaoadale Station. He was for four y^ars manager of Dargo Station, and then was for a long period at Reedy Creek diggings. He also enumerated several other places where hewas employed in Victoria and New South Wales.
