A lady's Letter.

Wellington, May 2, 1895. There was a very poor attendance at the Chamber Concert given by Miss Medley and Mr Alfred Hill last Saturday evening. It turned out a very wet cold night which explains no doubt the lack of enthusiasm

>&mong- our musical people. The concert' was on the whole good, the instrumental music being especially bo. fik violin solo Was beautifully plajfpy Mr Alfred Hill, and Miss MrPgpf flninrfl a well deserved encore former .pianoforte solos, to which she* responded with a pretty little melody composed by Mr Hill himself. Miss Mabel Hill was the only vocalist, her songs also being compositions of Mr Hill— "When I am de&d" and " Love v. Wisdom." Among the audience I noticed Mr and Mrs E. J. Reid, Mrs and Miss Levin, Mr and Mrs P. Baldwin, Mr and Mrs Martin, Mr and Mrs Hill, Mra Medley, Miss Goring, Miss Pearee, Miss Bullet, etc. A very enjoyable evening was given by Mrs Reid (of Colonial Bank) last Thursday, which took the form of a musical " At Home." There-were about thirty-five guests. Songs were sung by Mrs (Judge) Dennistoo, Mrs Levin, Mr Knight ans Mr Stott, while Mr and Mrs Reid, Mrs Tudor Atkinson, Mis 9 Rolleston (Canterbury) and Mr Richmond performed on the piano. There were also two or three recitations given. Besses those I have mentioned them were also present Mr and Mrs B. {faring, Mr and Mrs Litchfield, the* Misses Izard, Duncan, Richmqnd, Belliars and others. Mis* Fisher's concert takes place , tO'jrighfa in the Opera House. There is a very excellent programme advertised and as I believe all the Dress Circle seats have been taken, I expect I will be able to tell you a lot about it next week. The " Gothic " left for England this, morning. Miss Jervois was a passenger by her, also the Rev. Mr Isitt.

The sale of Sir Walter Buller'a furniture is in fall swing and the Terrace, looks very business like just now with* people hurrying to and fro or standing intenting studying a catalogue. I believe some very good an<H&foable things are going very cbeftpjy 'while others of considerably less-lvalue are bringing remarkably high, prices, however I suppose its always the way at sales. One thing that took my fancy was a large square glass case of stuffed tropical birds most beautifully mounted on branches and in other way?, it was of course very soon sold.
