Notes and Events.

An effort to preserve rabbits on the spot for export to London is being made by an Adelaide firm, who are sending to the River Murray a small canning plants Which can be easily moved from place to place along the banks as circumstances require It is believed that the industry will prove profitable, as it is anticipated that the whole cost of canning and placing on the market in London will not exceed 6d per 21b tin.

A Melbourne paper reports : Some reduction in the glut of rabbits and poultry in the Flinders-street cool chambers was effected on the 2nd inst., when the Thermopylae took away 40,000 rabbits and over 8000 head of poultry, the rabbits are in splendid condition. The poultry were also a fine lot, large plump young birds, which ought to bring a good price in London, seeing that they will arrive in April when English poultry are exceedingly scarce. The next shipment will be by the Aberdeen, which is to leave Melbourne on the 30th inst. Originally space was reserved in this vessel for 360 tons, hardly sufficient to accommodate the produce which by that time would have accumulated. The department, however, has been gratified by an intimation from the agents of the vessel that the insulated space available in the Aberdeen has been increased to 600 tons. The greater part of the 500 tons will be rabbits, and the shipment will be about equal to all the previous consignments of rabbits put together. The rabbits shipped from Sydney in the R.M.S. Ormuz on 14th January, of which there were seven crates full, were selling on the 4th March at about Is each.
