A Lady's Letter.

Wellington, March 21, 169& ~ A grand concert was given *oijte Monday night in the Opera 'Hb'tojje^' by the Hibernian Society, there "'war" a large and appreciative audience and the concert was a great succisi"'" in every way. Miss Randell, whom we have not heard for some time, gave great pleasure by her singing, and her song " Believe me, if all those endearing young charms " received tremendous applause, and; in response to an encore, she satog 11 Killarney " equally well ; she 6ftoi sang " Kathleen Mavourneen "with** great feeling. Mrs Burfoofs two songs were also well received, especially "Kate O'Shane." Mr E. J. Hill received a unanimous encore for his song "Oh, Where's the slave so lonely," he also sang "The young May moon-" Mr A» S. Patterson, caused much amusement and applause, by his recitation " The orange and the green " and being encored he recited '' Bairnies cuddle doon." MrR, Hall sang the new comic song "Crom-a-Boo" with great "spirit. The pianoforte solos played by Miss Clarice Brabazon gave much pleasure, and she received a well deserved encore tor each piece. In the interval the Hon. Dr Grace gave a short and amusing address, referring of coarse to St. Patricks Day and the Irishman generally. ■*' Mr Vaughan Barnett's concert which took place last Thursday was I am glad to say far better patronised than hither-to, for indeed the Art Society room was crowded to- the doors, and altogether .the. concert was a great success. I 1 The sad news of the death of Lady Jervois reached us yesterday. Lady

Jervois was iriucH loved arid resttected by all who knew her during the term of her husband's governorship of this Colony and the news of faer death will cause wide spread f egret j much sympathy is also felt for Miss Jervois wHo is still in New Zealand, and was until lately staying r here with Mrs Judge Richmond, i 1 think in my last letter I promised to tell you the result, of my visit to Te Aro lloUse* which I must begin by saying wa3 much rewarded by all the pretty things I saw there. Some of the hats were exceedingly tiretty especially one of beautiful brown soft felt (broad) with a Tarn , O'Shanter crown of a lovely saltiion pink- velvet, and otherwise ornamented with soft brown tips. There was ; also a sweetly pretty toque of turquoise blue velvet, edged, and trimmed with golden brown velvet ' and a sable tail; to a fair person this toque I am sure would be most becoming. There was a very dressy bonnet of the fashionable bright pink velvet trimmed with jet ; and a neat- black velvet toreador hat with black wings at the side and under the brim at the back was a bright orange bow. Another new looking toque was of shaded periwinkle blue velvet, folded and caught with jet buckles. This would look very ■tyliah with a gown corresponding in tone but hardly otherwise. I don't think I ever knew velvet to be so much used for millinery purposes as it is now, velvet in every conceivable shade and hue ; mauve and violet seem to be very favourite colours and much worn. A lovely jacket which attracted my eye was of light brown covert coating, with a huge turned down collar of bear fur, it was double breasted and cut rather long. There were also some very nice golf capes, marked at exceedingly low figures. I would like to go on telling you of the latest fashions but I think I have already filled my limited space, so will continue in my next. Sign a.
