A Female Poisoner.
The jury in the case of Madame Joniaux, tried at Antwerp for killing by poison her sister, brother, and uncle to secure their life insurance, returned on February 2nd with a verdict of guilty. She was sentenced to death, which, in accordance with the Belgian law, will be commuted to penal servitude for life. The convicted woman is the daughter of General Jules Abbay, and wife of the chief engineer of bridges and roads for the Belgian Ministry. The com • bined insurance on the lives of her victims amounted to 35,000d0l The prosecution was the result of the action of an English insurance company, which issued a policy on the life of Alfred Abbay, brother of the murderess - The case aroused great interest because of the sensational character and position of the ac- J cused.
