Tfcftf^a^jfcrly y fleeting of the OtaklflßßTO_i^g*6oniinittee was held at Otaki on Thursday. All the members were present. Transfers from J. G. Mitchell to T. V. Proctor for the Post Office Hote), Foxton, and G. Mcßeath to T. Eing, for the Family Hotel, Otaki, were granted. The application of J. G. Campbell fpr the removal of his license irom Manakau to Levin was next oalled on. Mr Skerrett appeared for Mr Campbell. Mr Gully appeared for the Labour Bureau, opposing the application. Mr Morrison appeared for certain petitioning objectors. Mr Young appeared for Mr Garland. Mr Skerrett objected to the meetings that had been held, to the Pro* hibitiwnst article on the chairman, and also to Mr Thynne's sitting ow ing to an artiole on the licensing laws which had appeared in the Manawatu Herald. Mr Skerrett then entered upon his case, the evidence being in no wise different to that produced on the two previous occasions. The witnesses called in favour of granting the application were J. G. Campbell, John Davies, Hector Davidson, P.. Bartholomew, T. O'Rorke, Smithson and Storey. Mr Gul'y then contended that the application could not be entertained as the premises to which it was sought to move the license were un* r finished. The Chairman ruled very strongly that such was the fact, but some members of the Committee objected to his so ruling. To' test the question, Mr Thynne moved and Mr Williams seconded, That the application be refused on the ground that an unbuilt house cannot be. licensed. Messrs Stanford (chairman), Har* nett, Williams and Thynne voted for the resolution and Messrs Smith, v Gascoigne, Bennett, McCulloch and - Stuckey against _it, ; and it was therefore lost. Tbe.Committee adjourned for tea and re-assembled at 7 when the Chairman intimated that owing to his ruling that the application could not be granted legally, he would be -yGnabl e-' to" continue ""con sidering the evidence and would shortly retire. MrT^nQje^also agreed and said Jje phi-nWi&ire at the same time. Mr Stuckey declared that if the Chairman' lef the also should leave.
Mr Skerrett asked that some resolution should be passed by the Committee and as a convenient expression it was agreed to pass the following valueless motion . — That as at present advised, the Committee afe of the opinion that the removal of applicants license should be granted at the annual meeting in June. Messrs Stuckey, Smith,. Bennett, McCulloch, and Gascoigne voted for the Resolution and Messrs ' Stanford, Thynne, Harnett and Williams gainst it. The Committee then adjourned.
