China and Japan.
The Japanese have occupied the district in Manchuria as far as Tapekou. They are steadily advancing on Newchwang. They have had frequent fights with the Chinese, but suffered only trivial loss. Three Japanese cruisers engaged forts at Teuchayo for a time, and then retired, for what object is hot ' known. The peace negotiations are pro* gressing favourably.
