Foxton Borough Council.

The usual monthly meeting of thtl above Council was held at t&em Library buildings last night, at 7.80. Present— The Mayor (T. P. Williams), Crs Jenks, Bradcock, Austin, McMillan and Westwood. ■ '. Austin, asking for remission of rates on his flaxmill. The following resolutions were passed :— . : • Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded ; by Cr Bradcock, That the dog tax be the same as last year, 2a 8d rabbitera, and 5s sporting dogs. Chamber to hold their meeting in. The following resolution was prorid by Or Westwood, seconded by Bradcock, That the rates on <*- flaxmill site as requested by 0. T. Austin be remitted. The Mayor said he could not vote with the motion in its present shape. * It should be for all mills or none. Cr Austin thought the Mayor had challenged him. Favour bad in the pastbeen shown to one miller. It was for rent. Cr Jenks did not wholly agree with the Mayor. Rhodes, 11s 7d ; W. Park, 9s ; A. Webb, £S ss ; Charitable Aid, £1 5s 8d ; E. Pigott, £10 ; S. s Startup, £1. Library account— W.B.Rhodes, 18s; H. Blake, 16s Bs. The following tenders were opened for — WiroWno Ferry— E. Pigott, £66 fo? one year, and £185 for three yefrrs. J. Hillary, £88 for one year, for three years, £105 each year. W. Woods, £40 tor one year or £120 for three years. No. 8 Contract. — Jacob and Walker, Is lsd per chain ; A. King, Is scf per chain. No. 4 Contract.— Jacob and Walker, 11 Jd per chain ; A. King, Is ncr chain ; John McGill, lOd per chain. No. 5 Contract.- Jacob and Walker, lOd per chain ; John McGill, Is per chain. Tenders for carting— C. Spring, 7s a day ; James Andrews, 7s 6d per day ; H. Ooley, 7s 9d per day. The following resolutions were agreed to : — Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Austin, That the tender of Jacob and Walker for clean- * ing No. 8 at Is lid per chain, and Nq, 5. at lOd per chain, be accepted. Proposed by Cr McMillan, se* oonded by Or Jenks, That the tender of John Hillary be accepted for working the Wirokino Ferry for a term of thiee years at £105 a year. Proposed by Cr We3twood, se* conded by Cr Austin, That J. -,McGill's tender be accepted for No. 4 drain at lOd per chain. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Bradcock, That the tender of C. Spring be accepted for carting for the Borough at 7s per day. KPuonpsed by Cr McMillan, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the newspaperj/proprietors who have gratuitously given papers to the Library be thanked and a letter to that effect be forwarded to each proprietor. The following resolution was carried : That a special meeting be called for Thursday next, the 7th instant, at 7 80 p.m. to consider the advisability of laying up the pant for repairs.
