The influenza is raging in a virulent form. Many members of both Houses of Parliament and of the Judicial Bench are affected.
A number of deaths among the working classes are recorded. The Earl of Rosebery and Mr Balfonr, who have been prostrated by the prevailing epidemic, are now better. The Criterion Theatre has had to be closed, nearly all the members ofthe company playing there just now being confined to bed with influenza. News has been received from West Africa that a party of marines and sailors landed, from TJ.M.S. St. George, and after a shaip engagement defeated the natives of Akassa, on the Brass River, in revenge for their outrages on the Niger Company. The native?, although armed with machine guns, suffered heavy los?. Major Sir Claude Macdunald, UM." Commissioner on the Niger Coast, and the officer in command of the party from H.M.S. St. George, were wounded in the attack on the natives on Brass River. The Economist, referring to an admission made by Sydney experts that the present system of shipping wool is dangeron?, and liable to cause combustion, enquires whether the colonies prefer to regulate the matter immediately, or to wait until a steamer is destroyed by fire in mid-
ocean.
Mr T. B. liighfcfoot, managing director of the Linde British Befrigeration Company, thinks it is possible to carry chilled meat from the colonies to England by circulating cold air amongst the meat by means , of a fans.

It is identical with the measure introduced by him on April 26th list year. It estimates the Church's revenue at £279,000, und aims at keeping moneys for the purposes and places intended. It is not to cdme into operation until 1897. It is probable a division on the first reading will be taken on Thursday.
The influenza has shut up several theatres and filled the hospitals in the East End. It 13 also raging virulently at the other side of the
city.
The influenza epidemic has prostrated a large number of the troops at Aldeishot.
Mr John Morley and Mr H. H. Fowler are confined to bed with the complaint.
The influenza has sprend to the Continent, and is raging in Berlin with great severity.
