HE STARTS ON HIS HOMEWARD . . VOYAGE. A large number of people journeyed^ from Invercargill to see Mr Ward off . on Tuesday. He left the Bluff in the Monowai for Hobarfc at Ily o'clock. «, a Prior to the departure of Mr Ward" for England he was the recipient of, tha following testimonials : — To the Hon. J. G. Ward, Colonial Treasurer. — We, the undersigned residents of Campbelltown, desire on - the eve of your departure to Great f Britain, to express our esteem of ■ yourself personally, and our ap- * preciation of your able efforts as our representative in the New Zealand Parliament and as a leading member of the Government of the Colony. c,;« We shall be pleased by your acceptance of accompanying gift, along with our heartiest good wishes that. . fche journey may be pleasant and successful; and in bidding you ' good-bye, we hope in due time to see yourself and Mrs Ward return to our midst refreshed and invigorated by the trip. The gift accompanying the testimonial was a valuable diamond ring. Tbe second address was as follows : — We, the remnant residents at Campbelltown of those who were your school-fellows at the Bluff School, desire on the occasion of your immediate departure for Hobart and England to offer onr congratulations on the distinguished position to which you have attained, both in the mercantile world and in the State, and to express our gratification that the one with whom we were associated in youth has achieved ' such great success in his career; and in memory of the happy days of boyhood, we crave your acceptance of the accompanying trifles as a small memento of your school days and of those you there met. We also wish for yourself and Mrs Ward a pleasant and prosperous voyage to the Mother Country, and a speedy return fco the Britain of the South. The testimonial was accompanied by a massive gold albert. : '*- A party of ladies of Campbelltown waited upon Mrs Ward and pre* sented* her with a lady's dressing-' case and a carriage clock and address.
