Painful Accident.

An accident of a very painful and serious nature occurred at Waitohi farm, near Campbelltown, on Friday. The breaking up picnic in connection with the Campbelltown State School was held in a paddock of Mr H. Hammond's, and during the day a boy about 11 or 12 years of age, a son of Mr C. Hopping, of Campbelltown, was despatched on horseback for au axe. On return ing, he fell off the horse and had the misfortune to fall with his face upon upon the upturned edge of the axe, with the shocking result that the axe pa.-sed behind the nose, severing it from the. face almost up to the eyes. MrH. S.anson who saw the boy fall oi?"|he hiirse, went at once to his assistance and found him in a fearful condition. He was unconscious and the blood was streaming from the wound. Dr Bennett was immediately telegraphed for and was soon on the spot. The little fellow's wound was dressed, and everything possible was done to relieve the sufferer.— Standard.
