THE CANTERBURY MEETING.
The Spring meeting of the Can terbury Jockey Club was opened at Riccarton on Tuesday. The weather was fine, though a strong and rather 1 cold north-easter blew during the greater part of day. The attendance was very large. The Governor and party and the Hons R. J. Scddon 1 and J. Carrol were among those present. ; The starting machine was used in : three races with very satisfactory results. The other starting, too, was successful.
