Attempted Suicide.
A oase of attempted suicide occurred at the National Hotel, Lauibton quay, shortly before 11 o'olock last night, when a man named Alfred Freeman, aged 89, cut hies throat with a razor. Drs Cahill, Henry and Anson were at once called in, and haying dressed the
man's Wound, ordered his removal to the hospital} whither ho Was conveyed on a stretcher. They state that there is a deep wound in his throat, and that he has lost a great quantity of blood, but at present there are hopes of his recovery. Freeman, it appears, had for some months pa3t been managing a drapory store at Eketahuna, which position he had lately left, and about 10 days ago ho came down to Wellington in company with his wife and put up at the National Hotel. The loss of occupation bad apparently preyed on his mind, and for the last two or three days he bad seemed nervous and d» j presHed. H« is a native of Sydney, and is spoken of as being of very sober habits. — N.Z. Times.
