Thrt Daily News, in denying that ;he proposals submitted for the discontinuance of the war by Lord Rosebery hive been flouted, asserts that the majority of the Powers are in accord with Great Britain as to the course which should be pursued with regard to China. The Mikado, in opening Parliament at Hiroshima, said — •• We will not stop the war till our objects have been attained." The Mikado requests authority to borrow to the extent of 100,000,000 dollars (twenty million sterling). The Chinese military authorities have received reports of a great battle at the lower Yalu. The Japanese attacked the Chinese position, but were repulsed with heavy loss.
