Carnarvon.
(from our own correspondent.) After a long spell of cold and barren Weather we are bow experiencing real spring* and the grass is coming atfay Well. Docking the lambs is pretty well completed in this district and the result is fairly satisfactory considering how short of feed everyone Was. It would have been better 4 this year at any rate, if the latflbitig had not started till first Sept. instead of first of Aug., as it did with nearly all in the district. On the Carnarvon Estate, it is said that one flock, shepherded by Mr Donald Ross, had over 120 per cent of lambs, and the others came Well vp — beating the average of former years considerable. In passing along the main road through this estate one is struck on seeing the large mobs of magnificient cross bred hoggets feeding on the English grass. It is admitted that it would be bard to beat the hoggets or the grass anywhere. 500 acres of new crass is being laid down and Messrs Whisker Bros., contractors, are clearing and breaking up other 500 acres to go into turnips and then into English grass next spring. It is sad to think that the designer of all this, Mr Hunter, who has raised the property and stock to a state bo near to perfection, should still be unable to resume his duties through the severe boggy accident which has been notified through the press. Those under him would give much to see him back again, while his neighbours miss him sadly. Shearing haa been started in earnest, and one or two have finished. It is in full swing at Messrs McLennan's, McKelvie's and Rallston's, but considering the backwardness of the season, it is too early both for the condition of the wool and the sheep. 18th October, 1894.
