Tenders were opened for the New South Wales debenture-conversion loan of £882,000 at B.J- per cent., with a minimum of 100. The total amount tendered was £4,268,000, the average being about £101 15s. Tenderers at £101 13s get 6 per cent. A syndicate tendered for £1,745,000 at £101 18s, and another syndicate for £200,000 at £101 13s 6d. There were many small public tenders. The highest offer was £102. The naval engagement between the Japanese and Chinese off Yalu River has been much discussed in England, and stimulates fresh demands for an increase of the British Navy. It is officially announced that the New South Wales debentures-con-version loan averaged £101 14s Bd.
