Notes and Events.
The amendment to " The Animals Protection Act 1880 " is not before it was wanted. The Bill has only two clauses, and sets out " From and after the commencement of this Act, no society, authority, or person shall introduce or import into the colony or turn at large for the purposes of sport oi' acclimatisation, or as game, any animal ov bird whatever without the consent in writing of the Minis ter for the time being in charge of the Department of Agriculture ; nor shall any insect or reptile be introduced or imported into the colony without such consent as aforesaid. Any person who offends against the provisions of this section is liable on conviction to a penalty of not less than five nor more than twenty pounds. The Colony has suffered enough from people's " fads " and some check on the turning out of game was sadly needed. We trust the Bill will easily pass through Parliament.
