FOXTON v. PAIAKA. On Saturday morning the Foxton footballers left by the s.s. Ivy for Mr Gardner's property at Paiaka to try conclusions once more with the Paiaka football team. The kip up was done in a couple of hours and very much enjoyed by all on board. When Paiaka was reached the steamer was welcomed by Mr Gardner and the Paiaka team, who immediately led the visitors to the dining hall for lunch. The open hearted hospitality of the hosts was shown by the table being laid for fifty in the hope that the team would have been accompanied by more of their friends. The dinner, a most substantial one, was enjoyed by one and all. After dinner, prior to commencing the game, an adjournwas made to the social hall where songs Were sung by representatives of both sides* At half-past two the convincing ground Was graced by the presence of a number of ladies who appreciated the game and showed intense interest whenever the Paiaka's got near the Foxton lines, but unfortunately for the losing team their lady supporters hopes were not realised. After the game was concluded particulars of which are annexed, all adjourned to the dining hall for tea, and at its conclusion Mr Young on behalf of the Foxton team thanked both Mr and Sirs Gardner for their hospitality and pleasant day's outing and to the Paiaka team for the friendly game they had played. Three heartg cheers followed this proposal and Mr Gardner in briefly returning thanks said he was much pleased with the success of the day and trusted it would not be the last by very many, in fact he looked forward to its becoming an annual event. As the Ivy sailed at 4.45 from the banks, three cheers were given for the Foxton team by the Paiaka men and as heartily returned by the Foxton men. The Ivy arrived at a quarter to seven.
