Major Steward moved the second reading of the Elective Executive Bill, and pointed out that the principle contained in this measure had been favourably reported on by two committees of Parliament. After a long discussion the second reading was lost by 27 votes to 21. The House roße at 12.56 a.m. Thursday, August. 28Rt»i The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The Riverton Harbour Board Bill was recommitted, when certain clauses were added that a poll of the ratepayers should be taken before the proposals of the BUI pan be given effect to. The question of the third reading was talked out. The Married Woman's Property Bill passed through committee with* out amendment. The Factories Bill was considered in committee and after some aniend'nienfcs passed through. The Shipping and Seamen's Act Amendment Bill was committed, and after amendments, progress was re> ported. The House adjourned at 1.55 a.m.
