Serious Accident at the Wirokino Ferry.
At an early hour this morningr ,an accident occurred at the Wirokmo . ferry which, bad enough, might have been worse. Mr Dudsouj had -on the punt crossing from the south side a waggon load of timber to which five horses were attached, x When the punt reached the bank this side of the river, the man in charge*- Mi' Piggott the lessee being away, ca^ecP* out to the driver it was all right* and took down the bars to let the : horses move ahead. A start was madja but from some oversight the, punt was not made fast to the bank and the ' movement of the team s.ta*fced the punt out towards the centre of 3^ e river and thus caused toe horses and waggon to be precipitated into -the water. At great ris'f Mr £. Dudson managed to cut the harness off the horses and got them safe to land, but the waggon and . its load has wholly disappeared. The accident means a heavy loss to the persons responsible, whoever they may be, as the waggon, timber and harness is no small item. It is veryfoxtofif te that under the oircumstaiiCesTnatters were not worse. . ;i r
