The Flax Competition.
In about six weeks time the entries for machines for dressing flax more quickly and economically than those at present in use, should be made. The prize for the selected machine is a good one. We have as yet only heard of one machine, that from America, which will compete, but possibly and probably many more are in hand of which we shall hear when they have been entered.
We are glad to find that Mr J. G. Wilson has woke the Minister of Lands up on the subject, and he has undertaken to advertise the date of entry in some of the newspapers. The business will be to select a good judge, it should be a practical miller or millers, and we should be inclined to advise the appointment of three. The questions to be decided appear rather more thau should be left to one man's, decision.
The idea we believe is for the Government to secure a large shed in which the competing machines should be placed, and opposite them the flax dressed by the process. We trust the Government will not grudge spending some money in letting the public know the date on which entries will be received.
