A Parliamentary Incident.
During the debate on the Syden* ham Licenses, R.A.L. in the N.Z. Times thus pictures a little incident
worthy of note :« — After this comes ' the sensation of the piece. As for the committee asked for, Mr Reeves will have none of it. Aro we to have a Star Chamber set up, making inquisitions into everything relevant and irrelevant, forcing men to divulge private conversations ? " You've a good precedent." The shot comes promptly from Welling* ton No 2, across the Minister's bows. A second follows, throwing up the spray kite high — " Fox Commission." Mr Reeves, instead of heaving-to, replies promptly by throwing the Fox Commission overboard. The Commission precedent is, he frankly admits, a very bad -precedent. Its setting up was a grevious blunder on
the part of the Government. He hopes very sincerely that the Go* vernment will never commit such a blunder again.
The Ptemier laughs at the beginning of this jettisoning of the Government cargo, and presently turning catches tbe eye o£ Lands, and after that there is not much more merriment.
