Burglary in Wellington.

A burglary of a mosfc daring and Sensational character was perpetrated •arly on Friday evening on the premises of the Goldsmith Hall Co., a jewellery firm carrying on business in Willis-street, opposite the Evening Poit Office. Tho shop was entered attd upwards of £500 worth of jewellery abstracted. The circumstances, as reported to the police, are that the manager of the Company went to dinner about 5.40 p.m., locking the door and leaving five jets of gas burning, and when his assistant returned fco the premises afc 6.80 p.m., he found fche whole place had been ransacked and the windows completely cleared of all the cases containing goods of any value. On the' counter tbere was also a large number d empty cases, the contents having been abstracted. The manager estimates his loss afc £200. The front door was found to have been opened with a skeleton key, which \Vas found inside on the floor. The burglars had evidently taken all the valuable goods, and left the paltry articles. A jemmy was found on the oounter, but it had not been used. At the time the burglary was committed there must have been a steady stream of people passing. .The detective force has the matter nThand, but no arrests have been made yet.
