Baron Coleridge, Lord Chief Justice of England, is dead. He was aged 78 years. It is believed Lord Russell (better known as Sir Charles .Russell) will succeed Lord Coleridge as Lord Chief Justice, and that Sir J. Rigbj', Attorney General, will become a Lord of Appeal. Mr Reid will take the Attorney Generalship, and Mr Haldane will follow him as SolicitorGeneral. Shares in the Bank of New Zealand are quoted as follows : — New, £4 ; old, £&. The fall is attributable to forced sales of shares by shareholders in the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company in order to meet the calls made by the latter company. The Australian banks have reduced the ratea of purchasing bills by a half per cent. The motion for the second reading of Ihe Deceased Wife's Sister Bill has been nogatived in the House of Lords by 129 to 120. The Prince of Wales, Lord Onslow, Lord Carrington, the Duke of Fife, the Marquis of Ripon and Lord Rosebery voted for the second reading of the Bill.
