His Honor the Chief Justice took his seat upon the Bench on Thursday at 10 a.m. "* Christopher Lockyer, who was convicted the previous day of keeping a brothel, came up for sentence. Until he found these sureties be would be imprisoned for a further pariod not exceeding three months. William Charles Prior was indicted on a charge of having on the 3rd April last forged the name of W. &n3 <J. Turnbull and Co to a cheque on ".'the Bank of New South Wales and with having uttered the same at ' the Royal Oak Hotel. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. There are three more charges to be heard against the prisoner. Henry Harness pleaded not guilty to having on the 25th March, at Porirua, cheated in a certain game with dice with intent to defraud Kips Baldwin. The jury retird, and after an absence of 15 minutes returned into Court with a verdict of not guilty.
