Foxton Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the the Library yesterday at 2 p.m. Present— The Mayor (T. P. Williams) Crs McMillan, McPherson, Jenks, Hamer, Austin and Bradcock. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Messrs Robinson wrote that they were in favour of exchanging road lines to the beach. They also asked for a new gate to the gravel pit. The following notice of motion was put, viz., Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr McMillan, That the resolution calling meetings of fchis Council at 2 p.m. be rescinded and that the Council meetings in future be held at 7.80 p.m. Cr McPherson suggested fche meefc ing should be held on Sunday nights so that no one would lose any time. , The Mayor rebuked Cr McPherson for making such a proposal. -The motion on being pub was '^carried. .Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Hamer, That the report ofthe Public Works Committee as read be adopted. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seoonded by Cr Jenks, That the members of the Wirokino Road Board and l>i -Manawatu County Council be asked to meet two members of this Council •> to confer on the advisability of raisin ing a loan to bridge fche Manawatu -■River at Wirokino and Motoa, and that they meet at fche Library on j^bticfay. Uth June, at 2 p.m. Mayor said there was a desire on the part of the Manawatu County and Wirokino Road Board to have the rjyer bridged. The resolution was carried. Proposed by Cr Bradcock, seconded by Cr Jenks, That a new gate be placed at the entrance to the gravel pit. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hamer, That this Council hears with regret the proposed removal of Constable Gillespie from Foxton and would ask the Government to kindly re-consider the matter, as no officer in his position has suited the district so well for many years. The Mayor said he heard with some surprise on Saturday that the Constable was to be shifted from the district. He thought some notice should be taken of the matter.
