Past and Present.
A poetical contributor sends us the following as the positions of farmers in New Zealand, in the past and at present ; — 1860. farmer at the plough Wife milking cow Daughter spinning yarn Son threshing in the barn All happy to a charm. 1875. Farmer gone to the show, Daughter at the piano, Madam gaily dressed in satin All the boys learning Latin, With a mortgage on the farm. 1593. Farmer cannot get a living Wife is left without a shilling Daughter has to take a place, Son must scramble in the race, " Seddon " has beggared all.
