The Race-day.
The glass is rising, rising very very fast, thus prognosticating a beautiful day fur the Foxton Racing Club's Summer Meeting on Monday, everything is in apple pie order, the course is simply splendid, having a grand sward and green as though the season was spring ; it has also been closely mown and it thus has th^ appearance of a bowling green Visitors will be unable to repress their surprise at the condition of the whole course. The lawn has also baen mown and tasteful shrubs will be fu-und around the fences. Some extremely comfortable garden seats will also be placed upon it. The totalizator is now approachable by tho geu j ral public as w^ll an by those on the lawn, which bhould tend to swell the receipts during the day. and no betting of any o her kind will be permitted. Mr Hill has charge of the machine. We may mention that the lawn is larger than it was last year. S'tms twenty eight feet frontage having been added thereto. The No. 2, Pub lican's booth ban baen moved back f .'om the ed#e of the oourse to a 1 ne with the front«g? of the Grand Stand, and the Refreshment booth will abo hi kept to the same linp, thus placing a very popular itaod
of the public clear of all obstructions with a splendid view of the finish. The course has been fenced along this portion too, which will reduca the labour of the Clerk of the Course.
"We have mentioned before that the course is wholly fenced in thus pretexting any unfortunate accident of a favourite running inside the pos when leading and too heavilv barked upon the totalisator. The frees have not been overlooked, as in the enlargement of the Stewards' room a sma 1 apartment has been set aside for their convenience. Outwhich ha officials can comfortably view the races The Paimemon Fire Brigade Band has been engaged. We do really think all has been done that can be done to secure a Bucoestful meeting and to meet the convenience of the general public, and as the acceptances are good and the day promises to be fine there should be a large an* pleasant gathering on Monday.
