It appears that Mr Daniell purchased from Mrs Scott the lease of the ferry reserves and the buildings thereon, but it had since transpired that the buildings (including the pilot house) were vested in the Council, and consequently Mrs Scott had do power to sell them, and it was also provided in the lease that the lessee was to keep the fences and buildings in order. It was pointed out that the pilot honse was very barl stute of repair, anil was also in danger of being washed away by the next flood. Mr Daniell said that if the house was put in good he would be quite prepared to take over the responsibility of its maintenance, but in its present condition he could not do so. Mr Conghlin said the executors were prepared the pay to cost of the necessary repairs, and suggested that the Council should get an estimate of the cost. It was ultimated n greed that the Council should take steps to obtain an estimate of the cost of the repairs, and if it was found necessary to remove the house they would do so at their (the Council's) cost. Mr Daniell agreeing to accept the responsibility of keeping the house in repair once it was put in order. Mr Daniell also promised to contribute half the cost of removing the house, provided the cost did not exceed £10.
