Wednesday, Seme___er 2T : i?he Speaker took the chair at 2 30 p.m. The Premier moved fche second reading of tbe Electoral Law Amendment Bill, to correct the mistakes in the Act just passed, and to give electoral rights to shearers. The motion was agreed to, after a brief debate. A. machinery clause, and another clause limiting from fifteen to five days the fcime in which a Rjgisfcrar may make enquiries as fco any applications preferred to him for enrolment, were added fco fche Bill. Mr T. Mackenzie proposed a new clause giving electoral rights to Womeli. This was lost on the voices, and fche Bill was reported from committee. - The Criminal Code Bill was Com* niitted arid Was reported from committee. Wheu fche House resumed at 7.80. p.m., The Criminal Code Bill was read a third time and passed, and the Electoral Law Amendment Bill, having been recommitted and formally amended, was also passed through its final stages. The House disagreed wifch the amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Native Land Validation of Titles Bill, and managers for a conference were appointed. The Colonial Treasurer moved fche second reading of the Bill providing for the payment of the Cheviot estate. The Bill authorised" the issue of debentures to the amount of £250,000, bufc they might nofc be issued to that amount. The Government would have to wait till the sale of the property before they were able to state the exact amount thafc would be issued. After a general discussion con-' cerning the policy of the Government in buying the estate, the motion was agreed to, and the Bill was committed, and was read a third time and passed. The Infant Life Protection Bill was pufc through its final stages. The Land Drainage Bill was pufc through committee without material amendment, read a third time, and passed. The Westland and Nelson Coalfields Administration Act Amendment Bill was passed. The amendments made by the L.gislative Council in the Workmen's Wages Bill were disagreed with. The House adjourned at 12.45 a.m .
