Revolution in Brazil.
News has been received at Washington, from Brazil that Santa Cruz has surrendered to the insurgents, and in consequence President Peixoto has abandoned his coast position. Letters received from Rio declare that all ports except Santa Cruz are either neutral or favour the rebels. Three rebel warship have sailed to blockade Santos. It is expected that the President will succumb. Loyal officers murdered a newspaper editor who was a supporter of the rebels. , . 'he rebellion is spreading inland. The rebel admiral shot his deputy and a marine lieutenant for attempting to discourage the rising. Shocking scenes were witnessed during the boirtbardment of Rio de »JaneirOi . Sliopa- weve looted and -women outraged" by gangs of roughs. The streets r were strewn with mangled corpses. The foreign warships consented to* allow the rebels to bring food from the merchant vessels in the harbour, Santos ,is expected to jqin the rebels. President Peixoto is practically defeated, and it is intended to restore the monarchy. It is reported that the womenfolk belonging to the naval officers who revolted were subjected by the Government to the indignity of being whipped.
