Important Flax Report.
We are much indebted to a correspondent in whom we place every confidence for the following important extract from a letter from an American fi>-m to a "Wellington firm. The report runs thus : — The following are the marks of the hemp received here for Superior Wellington, and if the quality is maintained to the standard of last year they will still be acceptable as Superior Wellington, viz . JJ. Soho, CR & Co., CH over R, WH, NCA, II M, Herstoh, M in diamond, Paratoa, Motoa, NSC, L & Co., CST, Bainesse, Herrington, BY & Co., GH, RAU, JD, JT, Emu, TH, OK, CLP, Star, XXX, X, PK, PB in diamond, CJJ, MOL, PBL. J & JR and Waimate are superior to Superior Wellington and are called Extra Superior Wellington. This report lets some further light into the actions of buyers. We are aware that some of the above brands described and purchased in America as Superior Wellington, have been sold in Wellington as g.f.a.q , a grade below " superior," and thus the miller has lost, and the pur* chaser has gained the difference, some two or three pounds a ton, between these two prices. It is a lesson hemp-millers would do well to lay to heart.
