Palmerston Councillors in Trouble.

On Friday the Councillors of Palmerston North Bcrough received the following circular letter : —

Crown Solicitor's Office, Wellington, loth September, 1898

SrR,- I have received instructions from the Controller and AuditorGeneral to take proceedings against yourself and the other members of the Palmerston North Borough Council under section 203 of the

Municipal Corporations Act, 1886. It appears that the Council has excrrded the statutory limit of its overdraft, as provided by Section 201. I should be obliged if you would inform me of the name of your solicitor. — Yours faithfully, Hush Gully, Crown Solicitor. We, the Manawatu Times, are informed, on good authority that the overdraft referred to was paid off some months ago.
