Total prohibition is the law of the land in these far off dependencies. The liquor law works satisfactorily, and the drunkenness prevalent eighteen months ago has quite disappeared. For why ? Because though there is water everywhere there are no spirits imported to mix with it. The sly-grog shop turns up as usual, the natives manufacturing what they call " beer " from the juice of the oranges. Civilization deals hardly with them, as they are fined when detected.
