Breach of the Bankruptcy Act.
ARRESTED ON THE MAIL STEAMER.
Jnsfc as the Mavipoga was leaving the wharf at Auckland on September 9th, a man named Alfred Joseph Kivk was arrested by Private Detective Hughes, charged with a breach of the Bankruptcy Act., 1892, there being reason to believe he was about to leave the Colony of New Zealand without the consent of his creditors. W. R. Cook (Cook and Gray) was the petitioning creditor, and was represented by Mr F. Baume. The accused was handed over to Chief Detective Grace, who took him to the station and, on searching him, found twelve twentydollar gold pieces, value £60, ten £20 notes, £15 10a in gold, a lot of half dollars, 8s 9d in silver, and a letter of credit for £200 in the name of .Charles Smith. A Union B.S. ticket by the San Francisco steamer, bearing that name, also was found upon the accused. Mr McAlister was present on behalf of the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy. Kirk was formerly a storekeeper at Hawera. — Press Association.
