The Railway Management Bill.
It is said that by industrious whipping the Government has assured itself of a majority of two on the Bailway Management Bill. This possibly is correct, but such a majority is not sufficient to warrant any expectation that the Government will be able to carry the Bill through Committee. The opposition to it will be too strong to permit ct this, and the opponents will feel that they have the country behind them in this matter. The Chambers of Commerce, representing the mercantile community, and the Agricultural and Pastoral Societies, representing the contry settlers, have spoken out from one end of the colony to the other on the question of railway management. If the Government has a majority of two on the second reading, we can only say that the vote given for this Bill will cost several of those giving it their position in the House. The question of' the management of the railways will occupy a prominent place amongst the issues before the country in the coming election, and we trust thaV the electors will reject every can dU.; date who is willing to place the lines under Ministerial management, direct or indirect. — Post.
