Mr Hogg is to move a new clause to the Rating Act Amendment Bill, expressly providing that all persons who are liable for the payment of rates shall be entitled to vote at all elections or on all questions on which the constituents of the local authority are consulted. This is intended to prevent ratepayers from being disfranchised In reply to a question put to him by Mr Wilson, the Hon Mr Reeves stated that it was not easy to appoint an interpreter for the Oourt at Otaki, and, as suitors provided their own interpreter, all that could be done was to make the expense of it part of the costs of the case. From Evening Post. i^L Mr Haikness is asking whet^re^ the Government propose to appoint an expert to grade flax before export. If the Council were to throw this Bill out they would do a most unconstitutional thing, which the House of Lords would never dream of doing. —Sir John Hall on the Electoral Still.
