It has hitherto been the custom to give members of both Houses gold railway passes. The new members of the Council received from the Railway Commissioners leather annual tickets. This the seven year men objected to as an insiduous distinction between them and the " lifers," and communicated through the Hon Mr Walker with the Commissioners, whose reply they do not deem satisfactory. Mr Guinness says there is no difficulty in the way, as there is a demand from those in the trade for such a law, and, moreover, a large revenue will be obtained. — N.Z. Times.
