Pinkerton, Sandford, Capt. Russell, and the mover. The Financial debate was then resumed. Wednesday, July 19. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. Mr Richardson complained that some of the Hansard reporting this session was faulty. Large portions of speeches were excised. The Speaker said that the matter would be brought before the Printing and Debates Committee. Mr Buckland complained that in one of his speeches a good deal he had said against the Government did not appear. The Premier announced that the Hon. W. Montgomery had accepted a seat in the Executive Council, and had been sworn in that morning. Mr Fish asked the Minister for Public Works why he had failed to carry out the promise that he would have the Otago Central Railway completed by the end of the financial year. The Hon. Mr Seddon replied that he had not been able to carry out the promis? entirely, but that he had gone as far as was practicable, and had, in fact, exceeded the appropriation. '1 he following Bills were read a first time: — Licensing Act, 1881, Amendment Bill No 2 ; Kiwitea County Bill; Submarine Telegraph Protection hill. Mr Enrnshaw asked that his Alcoholic Liquor Bill, which gives to the State the absolute control of the liquor traffic, should be discharged from the order paper. An objection was made by MiFish, and therefore the Bill could not be discharged. The Financial Debate was then resumed. ——————————— i
