— w The nsnal monthly meeting of the above was held at Sanson yesterday, at 2 p.va. The following gentlemen were present :— C. V. Ransom (chairman), Crs. Robinson, Masters and Taylor. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, after which the correspondence received was read. From Cr. J. G. Wilson, asking fbr leave of absence from the meeting. From Or. T. Wilson, resigning his seat in the Council as member for Awahou Riding, through not' having the time at his disposal he would like to carry out his duties successfully as a Councillor. - From same, re works proceeding in his riding, and informing the Council ihat G. H. Coyle'sj contract, of embanking at Moutoa had suffered considerably by the late flood. From Charles Bray, reporting thafc he had inspected the tramway and found it rougher -that it had been for some time, but only a very few b^r slacks and kinks, which can be pre right in a day or two. From; Traffic Manager, granting the usual permit for the running of the tram. * From; the Ballauco Memorial Committee, .' Wellington, asking the Council. to return ...the list, and . subscriptions, ..-jf any, before the 7th of Arijjfia^ife'xfc.T'! ■'•■..''-' •' ' ' Fr^nT-^Div 'Bennett, informing them that the bearer, George Ganell, suffered from ohroriio bronchitis, and considered that a month's rest in the hospital would be of much benefit to him, and asking the Council for help, as he had no friends. From Manager Bank of Australasia, Foxton, acknowledging receipt of cheques, &c.,Qf;;£s7 7s 9d for credit of Manawatu County Council general account ; also for an excess limit of £850, which is approved for the time specified. From Alex. Bruce, asking that sections 54, 55, 56, Mount Stewart Riding, be altered from his name to that of J. H. Peters, on rate-roll. From Arnold • and Lasehby, applying for a slaughtering license, and enclosing fee pf £1. From J.R. McLennan, relating to gorse on road fronting his property, saying that if the Council j grub thoroughly/taking out all the big roots-, collect and burn the rubbish, he would plough the land where ploughable on this occasion, but would not take any responsibility for suoh gorse either now or in the * future. . . . From Railway Department, in reply.to Council, re gorse on roads. From J. Gottrill, saying he would have 'to give up his draining con-, tract, as there was a lot of timber in the ground. From G. Cotfcrill & Co., and G. A. Gammon & Co., re sleepers required. From J. Saxon, complaining of of water-tables in Mount Stewart *" Riding not being kept clear, also a drain near Giesen's, on Feilding roadit:.*- J',..'3- r - ' '•-,• • ■'• from J. Herbert Hankins, solicitor, enclosing form of resolution and plan of Kari Kari roads. From Ci.'M. Crombie, Commissioned' of. Taxes, referring to payment of subsidy under "The Local Bodies' Finance and Powers' Act, 1885," enclosing form of declaration, when duly signed and returned, would entitle the Council to receive the amount due for the year 1892-93. Proposed by Cr V. C, Ransom, •seconded by Cr W. Taylor,— That Cr J. G. Wilson be granted leave cf absence from the meeting of the Council. - Carried. Proposed by Cr F. Robinson, seconded by Cr V. C. Ransom. -That the application of Arnold and Lasenby for a. slaughtering license for section 19, Te Kawau, Campbelltown, be granted — Carried. Proposed by Cr W. Taylor, seconded by Cr F. Robinson,— That the transfer in rate-book of seefcions 54. 55, and SG, Mount Stewart Riding, from J. H. Peters to Alexander Bruce as applied for, be granted. — Carried . Proposed by Cr W. Taylor, seconded by Cr F. Robinson,— -Thafc the Council accept Cr T. "Wilson's resignation wifch regret, and that the clerk be instructed fco make arrangements for fresh election for Awahou Riding. —Carried. A lengthy resolution from the Council's solicitor, Mr J. H. Hankins, detailing the stoppage and exchange bf roads on Motoa Estate, -was read and passed ; ifc was also resolved to have the same publicly notified. Proposed by Cr F. Robinson, seconded by Cr W. Taylor, -That the Overseer visit the embankment complained of by Mr T. "Wilson, and expend £5 if required. Proposed by Cr F. Robinson, seconded by Cr T. Masters,— That the Overseer visit the drain complained of by Mr Mathers, and report.— Carried. Cr Masters mentioned fchafc fche Committee appointed to deal with the proposed new road through Mr J. Bull's property reported as follows : -" According to resolution of lasfc meeting we met and went over fche surveyed line, and also the river bed, and think ifc better to keep to the surveyed line, as the settlers interested aie willing to assist this Council io make the road, providing the Manawatu County Council buy fche land for fche purpose of a road, aud fence the same And further, providing this Council can procure the money under the " Loans to Local Bodies' Acfc," to make fche said roads and other roads in the Sandon Riding." Cr Masters also handed in a petition irom ratepayers interested in the road in question, in which they agreed to help the Council financially in opening the road. It was resolved on the proposition of Cr F. Robinson, seconded by Cr W. Taylor, — Thafc fche report on the load through Mr Bull's property be adopfced. Proposed by Cr T. Masters, seconded by Cr V. C. Ransom,— That this Council agree to Mr J. Bull's proposal, re buying land through his property for the purposes of a public road, viz ; £12 per acre, for land and sixteen shillings per chain for fencing providing fchis Council can get the money under the " Loans to Local Bodies' Act. — Carried Proposed by Cr W, Taylor, seconded by Cr F. Robinson, That the Chairman, Councillors Robinson and the mover inspect the south end of the River Bank Line, and that they be empowered to make what arrangements they may think proper for keeping thafc portion of the road open. To meet on Monday 17fch July.— Carried. Proposed by Cr AY. .'Taylor, seconded by Cr F. Robinson, That Mr Bray's report on tramway be received, and fchafc Mr Cox be instructed to have the repairs to line mentioned in report attended to i immediately. — Carried. Proposed by Cr T. Masters, seconded by Cr F. Robinson, That fchis Council pay Mr C. Lumsden -£25 on his contract on Speedy 's Line.— Carried. Proposed by Cr W. Taylor, seconded by Cr F. Robinson — That the Council carry on the tram for 12 months under its own control, and that Mr Cox be appointed manager at the same remuneration as hitherto. Carried. The manager's report on the 'trainwav showed a profit for the first half year of £80 12s 2d, and for the second half year £34 4s 9d. The following accounts were ! passed for payment : — E. G. Cox, ! £12 10s ; petty cash, £5 ; tram wages, £86 8a ; McMillan. Rhodes and Co., £11 13s 6d ; A. Hight, £1 ; Ri H. Barber, £1 6s 6d ; Inspector of Machinery, £8 ; Railway Department, £30 16s 5d ; ditto, £2 4s ; "C. L. Anderson, '£2; R. B. McKenzie, expenses bridge enquiries, £14 5s 9d.
