The Labour Difficulty.

An attempt was made at Melbourne on July 6th to sink the steamer Wendouree by scuttling her, the circulating pump door being opened, and the valves unscrewed. The engine-room was full of water before the outrage was discovered. The engineer of the Burrumbeet dived down and shut the door, thus saving the vessel. The strikers are suspected of being the prime movers mv the affair.

The crew of the s.s. Arainac have been sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment at Adelaide for desertion. The non-union men were stoned by larrikins when going aboard the vessel.

Forty-five seamen at Sydney have been arrested to-day for refusing duty ; 18 previously arrested were sentenced to 14 days.
