Civil Service Insurance Bill.
If the Civil Service Insurance Bill beoomes laWit is to take effect on theigfc January next, and shall apply r to Civil servants, comprising members of the police force, school teachers, persons permanently employed in the Government Printing Office, housekeepers, messengers and gar,dners in the permanent employment of the Government ; and all warders of prisons, lunatic asylums, or sanatorium attendants, criers of Court, baliffs, Post Office distributors, telegraph message boys, lighthousekeepers, boatmen, and labourers in permanent Government employ. The provisions of the Act shall not apply to railway servants. Everyone subject to the operations of the Act shall be required to take out a life insurance policy, and shall retire at the age of 60 years, when an annuity will be paid until death. From the salary of every such person there will be deduoted a sum of money according to the rate of pay, the amount thus retained being paid into the Government Department as the. premium for the policy. The annual deductions will be as follows :— Prom a salary under £150, £5 ; £150 and under £200, £7 10s ; £200 and under £250, £10 : £250 and under £800, £12 10s ; £800 and under £850 £15 ; £850 and under £400, £17 10s ; £400 and under £450, £20 ; £450 and under £500, £22 10s; £500 and under £550, £2.5 ; £550 and under £600, £27 10s; £600 and under £650, £80; £660 and under £700, £82 10s; £700 and under £750, £86 ; £750 and under £800, £87 10s; £800, £40. The Act shall apply not only to those appointed after it becomes law, but to those also who beoame Civil servants under the Act of 1886 ; but there will be an exception in the case of officers who are too old to comply strictly with its provisions. — N.Z.
