Wirikino Road Board.

A meeting of the Board was held on Saturday at Levin. Present — Wardens Kebbell (acting Chairman), Gower, Miller, and J, Wallace. A letter was received from the Clerk, and also from the acting Chairman on the nuisance at the Albion Hotel, Shannon. Mr Wallace having pointed out that Mr Keith having taken the drainage into the open sewer on the road, the property of the Board, that it was now the Eoad Board's duty to carry it further. The Chairman, replying, said two similar cases had occurred, one at the Telegraph Hotel, Otaki, and at Thompsitt's, Manukau, and in each case the owners had to find other means of disposing of their sewage than draining it on to the road, and Mr Keith must do so too. The Clerk was desired to write Mr Keith to this effect. From Land "and Survey Department, enclosing plan asked for, and pointing out that the Board had now to take the necessary steps to close roads at their own expense. Mr Gower proposed, and Mi 1 Miller seconded, That the Chairman take the necessary steps to abandon that part of the Papaitonga road at first laid off in Sir W. Buller's and Mr J. Kebbell's properties, another road having been provided. From Messrs Kent, McCormack, James, and Ryder Bros., complaining of the impassable state of Queenstreet. Mr Gower proposed, That a sum not exceeding £10 be spent on improving Queen-street west, commencing opposite Ryder's shop ; the work to be under Ganger Lyon's supervision. Mr Carpenter wrote and also waited on the Board asking for permission to erect a fence between Messrs Smith and Hankins and his section on the road. Mr Wallace moved, and Mr Gower seconded, That permission be given Mr Carpenter to erect a fence between sections 49, 50, Waiopehu S.D., such fence to remain during the pleasure of the Board. — Carried. From Messrs Bell & Gardner, asking the Board to take over the portion of the Kohutuawa road in their district, and saying that the Fitzherbert Road Board would iajce over the portion under their control. The expenses of transfer, etc , to be borne by applicants. • The application was received, and it was agreed that it be held over until next meeting, the Clerk in the meanwhile to write to Messrs Bell and Gardner, and if they propose to bear the cost of survey requesting either one of them to attend at the next Board meeting and farther explain matters. From Mr Davidson, enquiring when the crossing would be done. The Clerk was instructed to again write the railway authorities on this matter. From Mr Young, asking for an extension of time for the ferry road. Mr Wallace proposed, and Mr Gower seconded, That the extension of time applied for on Ferry road fencing contract be granted;

From T. McCarthy, asking the Board if they could return his deposit of £25, as he had met with a serious accident and had only just left the hospital. Mr Wallace proposed, and MiMiller seconded, That in consequence of his present misfortune xMr T. McCarthy's deposit, now held by this Board, be returned to him." Mr Wallace moved, That permission be given Messrs Bacon Bros, to fell the bush on the road in front of section 699, Shannon, on the usual terms of the Board. Mr Scott's report was received and read. Mr Gower movsd, That the tender of Mr G. L. Scott fcxsupply a map of the Wirokino Road district, scale 20 chains to the mile, with all latest information, in terms of his letter for the sura of £11 11s within two months of date of this resolution be accepted. — Carried. The tenders were opened for the Papaitonga road, and IVfr Wallace moved, and Kebbeli seconded, That the tenders be held over until the next meeting of the Board. Mr Gower handed in the report of the sub-committee, and mentioned that no tenders had been . received for the Koputaroa road contract. Mr Miller moved, and Mr Wallace seconded, That Mr Gower's report re accepting tenders for fencing the section occupied by the Wirokino Road Board and clearing York-street be adopted. Mr Gower proposed, and Mr Wallace seconded, That J, Webber's tender at 12s per chain be accepted for stumping and clearing the Koputarca road opposite section 48 according to Mr Scott's specification. The Wardens present then handed in their resignations to the Clerk, this step having to be taken on account of the district being divided into wards. There being six wards, Tokomaru, Kingston, Levin, Shannon," Kereru and Ohau, the number of members under the new system will be increased by one. Mr Kebbeli moved, and Mr Wallace, That in consequence of the wardens' resignation the Returning Officer be instructed to hold an election of wardens one for each ward, said elections to take place at the earliest possible date.
