The Hop Trade and the Local Veto Bill.
A orowded meeting of all sections of the hop industry was held at the Bridge House Hotel, to protest against the Liquor Traffic and Local Control Bill. — Mr George Hanbury, who presided, said the hop trade was so connected with the liquor traffic, that if the proposed bill were passed into law the trade would be seriously threatened and the livelihood of thousands of workers confiscated. — A resolution protesting against the principle of local option being applied to the liquor trade, and condemning the proposed bill as unjust, was carried unanimously.
