The Hottest and Driest Place.
The hottest place in the British Empire, and also the driest, is Adelaide, in South Australia. Taking a number of years, the highest temperature in the shade there is found to average over 112 deg., while in the sun the temperature run 3up to nearly 200 degs. The'greatest heat recorded anywhere was that experienced by Captain Griffiths, near the Euphrates, where he found that the thermometer recorded 182 degs. in the shade.
