Wellington Education Board.
«. The monthly meeting of the Board ot Education was held yesterday morning ; present— Mr J. R. Blair (chairman), and Messrs W. W. McCardle, W. A. Fitzherbert, P. H. Fraser, J. Young, G. Beetham, W. C. Buchanan, M.H.R., Dr Newman, M.H.R., and the Rev. J. Paterson. A report from the Technical School Committee, which recommended that the'building should be lined and a ceiling put up, and that some necessary furnitnre should be obtained, was adopted. The teacher at the Mangaone School wrote asking the board not to reduce his salary on account of the irregular attendance, owing to bad weather and bad roads The board decided that they could not ' deal with the question of reduced, salary until such occurred. Petitions against the validity of the
election of the committees at Dalefield and Ohau were received, but the board, after considering them, decided to declare the elections valid. The following grants were passed : — Te Horo, £4, removal of sheds, etc. ; Pahiatua, £2, curtain. A snm. of money was voted for clearing and fencing at Ohau. The Inspector was instructed to make a report in regard to the dividing fence at Paraparanmu. On the recommendation of the inspectors, it was resolved to erect another shelter shed for girls at Pahiatua, and invite tenders for the construction of a classroom at Pernridge ; also to advertise for an assistant at Levin. An offer from Messrs Longman, Green and Co., London, to print and supply suitable school books to the Education Boards for a term of five years, was received through the Education Department, and it was decided that it would be inadvisable to give the firm mentioned the monopoly asked for.
