The Election of a Bishop.

The Wellington Diocesan Synod on Wednesday night discussed the election of a successor to Bishop Hadfield in committee from 7.30 to 11.20. An adjournment was then made to 7.80 on r l hnrsday when it was proposed ' That the Very Rev. Dean of Wtiiapu (Dean Hovell) bo elected Bishop of Wellingcon. On a ballot being taken the motion was lost, 10 clergy and 9 laity" voting for it and 18 clergy and 19 laity against it. The following motion ' That a successor to the Bishop of Wellington be obtained from England by delegation,' was carried on the voices. It was also agreed that the selection of a bishop should be left in the hands of the Archbishop of York and the Bishop of Durham with the condition of the selection that no clergyman who had held a cure in New Zealand be chosen.
